Short Takes for Trustees

short takes for trustees

The South Dakota State Library is excited to share with all South Dakota public libraries that we have renewed your access to "Short Takes for Trustees" a series of 10 short videos for you and your Trustees to view.

You can show these videos at your library board meetings, or you can give the login/password to individual trustees to watch on their own. These short videos (8-10 minutes eacg) can be used toward Accreditation trustee CE hours. If 5 board members view one video that is :50 minutes toward your hours. Make sure you keep track.

Some topics in the series explain the basics of being a good trustee. The titles include:

  • What it means to be a Trustee (discussing the broad fiduciary responsibilities of governing boards as well as the limits of an advisory board.
  • How to set policy
  • How to evaluate the library director (and why you should!)
  • Board self- evaluation, and the ethical and parliamentary standards for boards — both governing and advisory.

Please note that all libraries in South Dakota are using this same login/password. Please do not attempt to change either the login or password. If you experience any problems logging in or loading the videos, please contact United for Libraries at (800) 545-2433, ext. 2161 or by email at

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call Kathleen Slocum.
