Governor proclaims April 12-18 as Library Week
“We are very pleased to have Governor Rounds celebrating National Library Week with us,” South Dakota State Librarian Dan Siebersma said. “This proclamation recognizes the value of our libraries and demonstrates an appreciation for all that South Dakota's local libraries do to serve their communities and their patrons.”
The proclamation also celebrates libraries' place in history and their vital contribution to the historical preservation process, as well as their efforts to promote literacy among people of all ages, and to provide access to the many resources available online to all South Dakotans.
“Libraries seek to bridge the information gap by offering special services such as book loans, Internet access, and research databases to all people, no matter their financial status,” Gov. Rounds wrote in his proclamation. “I urge citizens to recognize the many contributions our South Dakota libraries have made to their patrons, schools, communities, and state.”
Throughout the week, area libraries will be holding special events and programs. To find out more, visit your local library.
