Julie Erickson

I am the Electronic Services Coordinator for the South Dakota State Library - West River. I manage the statewide electronic resources that are available to all schools, public libraries and academic institutions in South Dakota. I also provide training and in-services, along with technical assistance when the electronic resources don't work in your library.

I'm originally from Harding County, South Dakota where my first library experiences were when the bookmobile visited once a month. I graduated from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology with an electrical engineering degree. A month before graduation, I started working reference at Rapid City Public Library and knew I had found my profession. I graduated from University of Arizona with a Master's Degree in Information Resources and Library Science and continued to work at Rapid City Public Library in reference, children's services and cataloging. After taking a couple years to spend with family I started as the Electronic Services Coordinator at the State Library. I truly enjoy working with the librarians and educators in South Dakota and hope my enthusiasm for the electronic resources rubs off on everyone.

Professionally, I'm involved in the South Dakota Library Association, currently serving as Recording Secretary. I'm also a member of Mountain Plains Library Association where I had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Ghost Ranch Leadership Institute in 2002. I’m involved in our community as a volunteer at our church, for PTA and in Sons of Norway.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and the dog that looked much, much smaller at the store. I enjoy quilting, reading, gardening (I have planted seven hills of zucchini so beware), and being involved in the kids' activities.
