Caldecott, Newbery, YALSA 2011 awards announced

The 2011 ALA Media Awards, which consist of 11 ALSC awards and six YALSA literary awards were announced last month at the ALA Mid-Winter Conference. Check out the newest honorees and winners on the ALSC website and the YALSA website.

YALSA also has new highlights for 2011 including a new Reader’s choice award and a new blog, The Hub: Your Connection to Teen Reads.

Dealing with challenges to graphic novels

ALA has created a tip sheet to help librarians through challenges to graphic novels. While a challenge to a graphic novel may seem the same as a challenge to any other type of book, there can be problems not regularly encountered because of the power of images. Read more about this document on the YALSA Blog: Thinking Big about… Graphic Novels.
