Caldecott, Newbery, YALSA 2011 awards announced

The 2011 ALA Media Awards, which consist of 11 ALSC awards and six YALSA literary awards were announced last month at the ALA Mid-Winter Conference. Check out the newest honorees and winners on the ALSC website and the YALSA website.

Dealing with challenges to graphic novels

ALA has created a tip sheet to help librarians through challenges to graphic novels. While a challenge to a graphic novel may seem the same as a challenge to any other type of book, there can be problems not regularly encountered because of the power of images. Read more about this document on the YALSA Blog: Thinking Big about… Graphic Novels.

After-school Partnership launches new website

The South Dakota After-school Partnership promotes quality, out-of-school programming for all South Dakota school-age children and youth. The Partnership has launched a website to provide information to parents, after-school professionals and advocates. This website is the go-to source for information on after-school in South Dakota and includes a directory to link users to services in their region. Check it out at sdafterschool.org!
