Plunge into ProQuest’s new platform

ProQuest Logo ProQuest, the online full-text article resource, is making a splash with its recently released new platform. Your favorite features remain, and new features make researching more robust.

The Basic Search page maintains its simple look. New clickable images bring up more information by subject. Auto Complete provides keyword recommendations based on what you type in the search box. Thumbnail icons beside each result show which media type it is.

Let the new Article Preview keep you from becoming overwhelmed with results. Mouse over the word “Preview,” and more information about the article will appear. The Keywords in Context feature shows you where your search terms appear within the article.

Advanced Search allows users to springboard to specific document types, including images, graphs and tables. You can now also search information within an article’s supporting images, such as charts and graphs. When you’ve found the chart you want, use the new “Save to presentation” feature to save to presentation software.

The expanded citation tool generates citations in 20 citation styles. Select the one you need by clicking the drop-down menu.

Newly added social networking links allow for sharing and collaboration. Create an account in My Research, and save and manage key information for an unlimited time. Tag articles to better organize your results, and turn your tags into clouds if you like.

In additional e-resource news World Book Discover improved its short video set, “World Book Explains.” The page is now searchable as well as browseable. Videos can be downloaded for ease of use. Finally, you and your students can now send questions to World Book for future video topics. Visit World Book Explains Videos at World Book Discover.

Learning Express Library, the practice exam resource, offers new functions and content too. Ebooks, tests and courses are now available in one search by typing your search term in the box in the upper left of the home page. It is now possible to delete tests, courses and e-books from your “My Center” page. New tests added include: ParaPro Assessment Exams 1 & 2, part of the Praxis Series (for school paraprofessionals); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Practice Exams 1 & 2; Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC®) Practice Exams 1 & 2.

ProQuest, provider of AncestryLibrary and HeritageQuest, now offers ProQuest Genealogy, a quarterly e-newsletter with genealogy information. Register for your own e-mail copy at the bottom of the page.

Updated handouts are available in PDF format. If you have questions, contact Julie Erickson (email) or Jane Healy (email), 1-800-423-6665
