Summer Reading Program Evaluation

I hope that everyone has been having a great summer! (And I don’t mean that in the generic way that we all used to sign each other’s yearbooks.) Some of you may have finished your summer reading programs already, some of you may still be going and a few of you haven’t started yet. Everyone has a unique program. The summer reading program evaluation is available now.

  • Deadline: Sept. 24, 2011
  • If we don’t have one for your library, you will not get your free 2012 summer reading program manual.
  • You might notice a few new questions – mostly participation numbers broken down by age groups. If you did programs for children, teens, and adults please do not lump all those numbers together. Separating them is very important at both a state and a national level. You may guesstimate if you have to. These numbers are used to justify the funding for the manuals, South Dakota’s membership in CSLP (http://www.cslpreads.org), and the Jump Start workshops.

If you have any questions, contact Jasmine Rockwell, email.

YARP/SD Teen Choice Book Award 2011-2012 information available

The new South Dakota Teen Choice Book Award list for 2011-2012 is available at library.sd.gov. Make sure your collection is stocked with these titles and be ready to go when school starts! Voting begins with Teen Read Week on Oct. 16. Keep an eye on the Cornerstone for the link to the online voting form.

Teens' Top Teen voting opens Aug. 15

Online voting opens for YALSA’s Teens’ Top Ten on Aug. 15. This is a national list, not the South Dakota Teen Choice Book Award, and another way for teens to get involved in voicing their opinion about their reading choices.

Librarians may also voice their opinions through YALSA. The deadline to turn in volunteer forms to serve on selection and award committees is Sept. 30.
