Learning Express Library helps summer job seekers

School's out and patrons shout, "I need a summer job!" What can you offer?

Learning Express LibraryLearning Express Library offers résumé and cover letter writing courses to help patrons get started. They will have documents ready to hand to potential employers when they finish. The interviewing course helps patrons prepare for typical hiring questions and gives them confidence at the actual interview. After they're hired, the Success on the Job course gives tips to job holders about proper behavior and performance. These self-paced courses can be taken in the library or from home with a barcode and password.

Patrons wanting to brush up on their skills can practice with tests, courses and e-books in the Skill Building for Adults section, aimed at improving skills in math, public speaking, reading, writing and other subjects.

Summer is a great time to work on occupational certifications or licensures. Learning Express Library offers practice tests, courses and e-books for many occupations in the Jobs and Careers section.

Browse e-books to find titles such as Goof-Proof Résumés & Cover Letters, Job Interviews that Get You Hired, and others on Résumé writing, interviewing and skill building. Find the link to e-books at the bottom right of the homepage.

To use Learning Express Library, each user must create an account, including email address. Then users select the test or course they want and begin. Results are immediate and confidential.

For printable posters, demos and help sheets about Learning Express go to the informational page at library.sd.gov.

Free, direct access is available from the State Library website within libraries and schools in South Dakota, and 24/7 access is available to citizens from home with a library barcode and password.
