Downloadables now available in State Library electronic resources

World Book LOGOState Library electronic resource providers are responding to the demand for downloadable books, articles and videos.

World Book Advanced’s E-Book Center contains books in the public domain (classics), including works by Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Jane Austen and others. Many of these may be downloaded onto digital readers in either EPUB or mobi formats, allowing users to put these titles on their Nooks or Kindles.

The videos in World Book Discover’s “World Book Explains” can now be downloaded. These one-to-three-minute videos are introduced by a student who asks a question that is answered by an expert in the field. Topics cover a broad range from NASCAR to the US Supreme Court.

Libraries and patrons using ereaders that accept pdf downloads have several options. Gale Virtual Reference Library offers visual (pdf) and audio (mp3) downloads of its reference book articles. Learning Express allows pdf downloads of its career and academic skills improvement e-books. The magazine and newspaper articles in SIRS Issues Researcher and ProQuest that are available in pdf may be downloaded. More publishers are adding articles in that format.

Ebooks on ebscoHost (formerly NetLibrary) still offers full-text electronic books that are viewable, but not downloadable.
