Do you have a teen advisory group?
While they go by many different types of names, teen advisory groups for libraries can be extremely beneficial. Many librarians express frustration in trying to attract teens to their libraries and seek advice on how to get, and keep their attention. The best way to know what they want is to ask them. So how do you go about doing that? Form a teen advisory group! These groups can be just as useful on college applications as school student council. They can help you pick out materials, plan programs, decorate—the sky's the limit.
If you have a teen advisory group, we’d like to know about it. Go to surveymonkey.com and fill out this five question survey. We will summarize the information we collect and put it in a future Cornerstone to benefit everyone.
Summer Learning Day is June 21
Many times libraries get overlooked by summer learning and after school groups as places where youth go to learn, to pursue interests, and/or for entertainment. Administered by the National Summer Learning Association, this extra special Summer Learning Day can help raise awareness of the importance of what libraries do to help combat the "summer slump" or "summer learning loss."
