Jan Stauber Grant for Sherlock Holmes Programs

Deadline: May 1

The Beacon Society, a nonprofit affiliate of the Baker Street Irregulars, invites librarians, teachers, and others in the U.S. and Canada to apply for a $250 Jan Stauber Grant. The grant will fund programs that introduce young people to Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. For more information visit the website: www.beaconsociety.com.

Books for Teens

Deadline: ongoing

Books for Teens' mission is to empower the nation's at-risk teens to achieve more by providing them with free, high quality, new, age-appropriate books. Funds raised through Books for Teens will be distributed to institutions in communities with a high level of poverty, where librarians and library workers will purchase and distribute new books, encourage teens to get library cards and provide teens with reading-focused events and activities. Visit Books for Teens on Facebook for additional news and updates or the website: www.ala.org.

Kids Need to Read

Deadline: ongoing

Kids Need to Read provides books to under-funded schools, libraries and literacy programs across the United States, especially those serving disadvantaged children. For more information and the online application go to community.kidsneedtoread.org.

Summer reading/learning grants available from Dollar General

Twenty libraries will receive $1,000 each to recruit, train and compensate teen assistants to help with summer reading programs. Individual library branches within a larger system may apply. Applications are due January 1, 2015. Funding is provided by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Learn more or apply at http://summerreading.ning.com/.
