"The Librarian's Nitty-Gritty Guide to Social Media"

Solomon's book - librarians nitty gritty guide to social media

"The Librarian's Nitty-Gritty Guide to Social Media" by Laura Solomon
Chicago: ALA, 2013, 211 pp.

Your library needs a social media presence, but where and how do you start? Your library has a social media presence, but it's not getting much interaction. How can you maximize social media for your library?

This book is easy to read and offers great tips on how your library can make the most of its social media options. Each section has a brief statement at the end labeled "Bottom Line," so you can easily grasp the main idea.

Solomon guides readers through educating staff, choosing social media platforms; writing social media and "friending" policies; how, what and when to post; how to promote your platforms; how to handle negative comments; and, other advice that is grounded in research. She provides concrete examples to show her points.

The guide offers a separate chapter about using social media to engage teens.

The book contains a bibliography and index.

This and other books on social media are available for loan from the South Dakota State Library.
