Project station serves as mini-makerspace

project station makerspace at grant county library

Grant County Library's makerspace in Milbank takes up little more room than an ordinary computer workstation, yet it offers enormous services to its patrons. With a scanner and printer purchased with grant money, a computer with internet access and Adobe Photoshop, patrons can use the station for all kinds of projects. Library Director, Jody Carlson says it is most often use to scan and email photos.

Tech Tips: Do you Skype? You should, it's free!

Skype lets you call, see, instant message and share files with anyone else on Skype. All you need is a webcam, an internet connection and a computer or mobile device with a microphone and speakers.

Skype is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family, especially if you live far away from each other. Skype is also a great way to conduct library programs.

Here is just a brief list of ways to use Skype in your library:

  • Conduct author chats
  • Hold a virtual book club discussion
  • Interview an expert
  • Take a virtual trip

Check the Skype web site for information on the free service and information on add-ons for purchase.
