Incorporating STEM Into Your Teen Programming

Hopefully you've heard about STEM programming by now. If you haven't, STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. These can be daunting concepts if you haven't been trained as a teacher or expert in these areas. Fear not! YALSA has an excellent toolkit for you to use on their Professional Tools websiteand scroll down to the STEM Programming Toolkit. STEM fields are very popular right now, and teens heading off to college soon should be aware of how interesting and diverse these fields are. If you're already doing STEM programming at your library, let Jasmine Rockwell know so she can share your success stories with other libraries. Contact her at

Get Help with Early Literacy Using StoryBlocks Videos

Six new StoryBlocks videos were recently posted, including videos in 3 new languages (Arabic, Vietnamese and French). Storyblocks is a collection of 52 short videos, produced in partnership with Rocky Mountain PBS, that demonstrate rhymes and songs appropriate for early childhood to parents, caregivers, librarians and other ECE educators. Each video comes with ECRR-based early literacy tips. There are now videos in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, French and Arabic. Visitors can search the videos by age group (babies, toddlers, preschoolers), activity type (rhymes, songs) and language. If interested, please share these widely with library staff, parents and other educators. Check all of them out at
