State Library hosts Foundation Center grants workshop

The South Dakota State Library is a Funding Information Network partner for the Foundation Center. This organization provides a multitude of information on grant funding foundations, and training opportunities to help those who write grant proposals. In early April, a representative from the Foundation Center visited Pierre for a site visit. Part of his visit included hosting a grants workshop, which covered how to search the Foundation Center's premiere database, Foundation Directory Online, as well as a Proposal Writing Basics session.

As a Funding Information Network partner, the state library provides free access to print resources which can be borrowed through interlibrary loan. We also provide free access to the professional version of the Foundation Directory Online database, which includes more than 140,000 grantmakers. Take a tour of FDO at There is also a free, scaled down version of the database available. Free webinars are available at as well as a collection of sample documents that can be used as templates for your own grant proposals. For more information on state library grant resources, contact Brenda Hemmelman (email).
