Breathe new life into your story times and displays

A group of librarians from around the country have pitched in and added their favorite books to a new website called Our Favorite Story Time Books. This is an ongoing project and you can add your favorite story time books to the list. If you are new to story time there is also a section on how to present one.

Little Brown Books also has one of the best Pinterest pages ever. Full of book discussion guides, display ideas, activity kits, and more — this publisher has you covered!

Read for the Record

Calling all public libraries! On Oct. 22nd, your library has a unique opportunity to join with thousands of other libraries and schools around the country to read the same book to as many kids as possible. This year the selection is Not Norman: A Goldfish Story by Kelly Bennett. The South Dakota State Library wants all of our public libraries to be a part of this national campaign and we will help you do it!

Public libraries register by Sept. 25 and the State Library will provide you with a free copy of the book! Prove registration by sending a screen shot of your registration confirmation or by forwarding your confirmation email to Jasmine Rockwell.

National Fossil Day coming this October

South Dakota has a rich fossil history so why not participate the sixth annual celebration of National Fossil Day which will take place on Oct. 14th, 2015? Brought to you by the National Park Service, this special day encourages young people to learn more about fossils and where they come from. For more information about National Fossil Day, and to find ready-made activities visit their website.
