AncestryLibrary: Downloading Image Viewers

One of the unique and most exciting databases within AncestryLibrary consists of the original images of the US Census from 1790-1930. Browsers can view these images with the HTML viewer, which seamlessly appears while in the AncestryLibrary database. However, for the best functionality in viewing Census images, these images should be viewed using the image viewer that users will be prompted to download free-of-charge from the AncestryLibrary website while viewing Census images (this is analogous to Adobe Acrobat Reader).

In March 2005, an upgrade to the AncestryPlus image viewer was released. The new viewer has been specifically designed to be more intuitive and improve the user's genealogical research experience. With the new image viewer, patrons will be able to more easily view, zoom, magnify, scroll, and print an image. The new viewer also displays images across the full width of the browser screen and even includes a Full Screen mode as well as options for Image Enhancing and Image Compression.

With the release of this new image viewer, the previous Advanced Viewer is no longer available. Please install the new Enhanced Image Viewer as soon as it is convenient so that patrons can begin to enjoy its benefits.

To install the new viewer please simply visit the following URL:

Please note that you will need to have administrative rights on a computer in order to install the new image viewer.

If you are a System Administrator and need to install the viewer on a large number of computers, you may be interested in the alternative installation instructions at the following URL:
