AncestryLibrary can be accessed exclusively on personal computers located within SD libraries and on SD campuses (academic, K-12, & SD government).
AncestryLibrary is a library version of Ancestry.com's celebrated genealogical database that provides instant access to more than one billion names in more than 3,000 databases, including digital images of the 1790-1930 US Censuses, as well as immigration, vital, court, church, and ethnic records; city directories, genealogical societies, Social Security Death Index, family history library, Civil War Pension Index, and 700 historical maps.
Funded by South Dakota taxpayers and by federal Library Services & Technology Act/LSTA monies, the SD State Library makes AncestryLibrary databases available free-of-charge throughout South Dakota.
Of interest to those researching local history and family histories. Includes U.S. Federal Census records from 1790 thru 1930, immigration records, military records, the Social Security Death Index, the family history library and more.
- Accessibility: Library card bar-code numbers and passwords CANNOT be used to access AncestryLibrary. There is no remote/home access to AncestryLibrary. Ancestry.com's license with ProQuest limits access to library & campus equipment whose static, public/external IP addresses are listed on ProQuest IP address registers, or IP filters.
