Siebersma to head State Library
PIERRE, S.D.- Daniel Siebersma of DePere, Wisc., will lead the South Dakota State Library as it continues to reshape its role in today’s global information economy.
“We know that the role of today’s libraries is much different than it was just 20 years ago,” said Education Secretary Rick Melmer. The State Library is part of the South Dakota Department of Education. “Dan’s leadership will help us improve our day-to-day operations while continuing to be true to the mission of providing leadership for innovation and excellence in libraries across South Dakota.”
Siebersma’s background includes nearly 20 years of experience as a director of public libraries and library systems. Recently, he served as the director of the Lakeland Library Cooperative, a 41-member public library consortium in West Michigan. His background includes experience planning and directing major technology related projects. He also spent several years working in the private sector for library vendors.
Siebersma has a master of arts in librarianship from the University of Denver and a bachelor of arts from Morningside College in Sioux City, Ia. He will begin his duties as the State Librarian in December. Dorothy Liegl will focus her efforts on library development, a key component of the State Library’s services.
