State Library announces summer reading award winners

PIERRE, S.D. - Five readers have been named winners in the South Dakota Braille and Talking Book Library Summer Reading Program. Forty readers participated in this summer's program, which ran from June 3 to July 14 and was open to all youth registered with the South Dakota Braille and Talking Book Library, ages birth to 19. Participants pledged to read a minimum of 20 minutes each day.

Readers who returned their reading charts were entered into prize drawings. Prizes included Amazon gift cards provided by the Evening Star Lions Club of Rapid City and a grand prize Android tablet paid for with donations from users of the South Dakota Braille and Talking Book Library. The following youth won prize drawings for keeping their reading skills sharp this summer:

Age division birth to 12

  • Caramia Estes, Aberdeen
  • Jaxon Scheff, Montrose

Age division 13-19

  • Dani German, Sioux Falls
  • Savannah Stahl, Wessington Springs

Grand prize

  • Blaine Jemming, Woonsocket

The South Dakota Braille and Talking Book Library will hold a winter reading program in February 2019.

The South Dakota Braille and Talking Book Library is a program within the South Dakota State Library and is an affiliate of the National Library Service. The NLS is a free braille and talking (audio) book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents them from reading or holding the printed page.
