Boot Camp 2018: Pierre
School Library Boot Camp was held July 23-26 at the State Library. This annual, multi-day professional development opportunity is geared for all educators in South Dakota, not just school librarians. Boot Camp is a college course* (graduate or undergraduate credit) offered by the South Dakota State Library in conjunction with Black Hills State University .
This year's theme was titled 21st Century Literacies: The School Library Connection with a focus on digital literacy, media literacy, and information literacy. Award-winning blogger and teacher-librarian Jennifer LaGarde (author of The Library Girl blog ) engaged campers in a variety of activities including a BreakoutEDU encounter which challenged campers both physically and digitally.
*The course including instructors and resources is paid for with LSTA federal grant funds through the Institute of Museum and Library Services .
**The course can be applied to the "Methods" course requirement of BHSU School Library Media minor (and DOE endorsement
).
