2020 Presenters
Kathleen Sullivan
Kathleen Sullivan is the Open Data literacy consultant from the Washington State Library . She helps libraries statewide use Open Data for services and strategic planning; she also curates the state's Open Data portal . Kathleen received her Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Washington, where she focused on data curation, statistics and information literacy. Public data also played a significant role in her earlier professional life, which included government and business journalism, and grant writing.
Lynn Klundt
Lynn Klundt, from Beulah Williams Library , is a reference and instruction librarian who manages the electronic resources and provides reference services and information literacy instruction for the Library. She will be teaching on multiple reference sources: Google Scholar, Wikipedia, fake news, plus a special scavenger hunt.
Ashia Gustafson
Ashia Gustafson, Director of Brookings Public Library , will be sharing multiple ways to do marketing. Media is a great way to reach your patrons and another outlet for letting them know what is going on at the library: events or news or fun facts. Other ways to get the word out to include Facebook, email and newsletters
Jared McEntaffer
Jared McEntaffer, Project Director & Regional Economist at Black Hills Knowledge Network / South Dakota Dashboard, will present on Working with Data Visualization: a graphical representation of resources. By using visual elements like charts, graphs, and maps, data visualization tools provide an accessible way to see and understand trends
Sarah Jones-Lutter
Sarah Jones-Lutter, Director of Redfield Carnegie Library , will speak about doing a community survey. With a small staff and an even smaller budget, she administered a library survey from May to June 2019 to determine the needs of her community and measure the library's impact. She will teach on what questions to ask, how promoted the survey, and how she coded the responses to put together a successful survey.
SDSL Librarians
Collection Services Librarian Brenda Hemmelman, Metadata Librarian Nina Mentzel, and School Library Technology Coordinator Alissa Adams, are sharing resources, databases, and special programs like Scan Day and Share-It . Plus they will be sharing information about joining S.D. organizations (SDLA ) and regional organizations (MPLA ).
