GeoIP: South Dakota's Click and Go access to Electronic Resources
On December 4, 2018, the State Library introduced GeoIP, which should make it easier for residents to access the SDSL electronic resources from outside of a library or school building.
The new process:
- CLICK on your desired eresource
- You will either GO to the eresource
OR You may see "Allow this application to use your location?" - select ALLOW and proceed to the eresource.
Your browser may direct you through SHARE-IT - simply select your library and enter your barcode and password.
Selecting DENY will take you directly to the SHARE-IT login screen.
In short - as long as the user is physically in South Dakota, GeoIP authenticates users by IP and geographic location.
Please note the following:
- GeoIP access will not apply to Ancestry Library, Camio, or ReferenceUSA.
- If you live near the state border, you may experience some geolocation inconsistencies.
- If you access eresources through your local institution's website using their own barcode and password, you should still login using their interface.

Electronic resources are provided through a combination of funding from the South Dakota State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
