School Libraries Survey

Survey Information:

• The School Library Survey is conducted annually from March 1 through the first week of May (unless otherwise noted).
• We request a separate survey from each school library in the district or system; estimates (such as for circulation) are acceptable.
• Survey results are available to librarians and administrators through reports on this webpage or by contacting the SDSL Data Coordinator.

South Dakota's public school districts, non public school systems, tribal/BIE schools, and state special schools were surveyed about their libraries during the 2025-26 school year. The information in these reports reflects the activities reported by library staff from 270 school libraries who responded to the South Dakota School Library Survey (approx. 71% response rate).
