School Libraries Survey

Survey Information:

• The School Library Survey is conducted annually from March 1 through the first week of May (unless otherwise noted).
• We request a separate survey from each school library in the district or system; estimates (such as for circulation) are acceptable.
• Survey results are available to librarians and administrators through reports on this webpage or by contacting the SDSL Data Coordinator.

Complete the Survey:

• Print the School Library Survey Worksheet and use it as an aid in completing the School Library Survey.
• Complete the 2025-26 School Library Survey. Submit one survey for each library in your school district/system.

Complete the School Library Survey course for credit (March 1 - May 30): DOE/SDSL Canvas Catalog

South Dakota's public school districts, non public school systems, tribal/BIE schools, and state special schools were surveyed about their libraries during the 2024-25 school year. The information in these reports reflects the activities reported by library staff from 283 school libraries who responded to the South Dakota School Library Survey (approx. 75% response rate).
