PIERRE, S.D. — Libraries throughout South Dakota are preparing for summer by developing summer reading programming for kids. These programs, led by individual libraries and supported by the South Dakota State Library (SDSL), provide enrichment to students while school is not in session.
"The Summer Reading Program at your local library is a great opportunity to keep the momentum going in your child's reading journey," said Amanda Raiche, the youth services coordinator with the SDSL. "These programs help maintain reading skills and fight the summer slide by encouraging children and families to continue to read throughout the summer."
The SDSL's 2024 summer reading program theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library." Summer programs run by community libraries will focus on individual community needs, but all will reflect the joys of spending time in the summer reading books and discovering the worlds within them.
Children and their families are encouraged to visit their local library to discover the activities and opportunities available there.
