Authentication and URLs
Patron authentication for electronic resources licensed through the South Dakota State Library is provided through South Dakota Share-It.
*Authentication is the process which matches user logins to the information within an authentication server. If the logins match, the user is granted access to the electronic resources.
- If your library/patrons access electronic resources via South Dakota Share-It OR the SDSL web page — access will be by ip authentication, click and go
- If your library/patrons access electronic resources via links on your library web page copied from the SDSL web page – you will need to make sure you use the links on spreadsheet in the top box — access will be by ip authentication, click and go
- If your library/patrons access electronic resources via links on your library web page using your own authentication (i.e. EZproxy) — access will be through your library system
Register your library's static, public/external IP addresses to create local access to databases licensed statewide by the SD State Library.
These websites will reflect back to your PC the IP address of that PC at that moment:
However, these websites cannot tell whether the public/external IP addresses are static (unchanging) IP addresses or are part of an static IP address range that is used only by equipment in your library or on your campus. Your ISP will know that.
